Comments:

I married a Dover girl, Jana Kneeland (CR '74) in 1981 and together we've raised two daughters who continue to amaze me. Morgan graduated Virginia Tech in 2008, is a Registered Dietitian and employed by a medical center in Annapolis, MD, and is in the process of planning her wedding for July 24, 2010 - the day before Jana and I celebrate our 29th anniversary! Allyson will graduate James Madison University in June 2010 with a degree in Biology, and is leaning toward a career path working with large marine mammals.

We've spent some time in Houston, TX and Bowie, MD before "settling" in Northern Virginia - from where Jana and I both travel to Greenbelt, MD daily to jobs at the Goddard Space Flight Center.

I have thirty-plus exciting years of participation in NASA’s Space Shuttle, Life & Microgravity Sciences, and Extravehicular Activity (EVA) programs. My career parallels the modern manned-space era, and milestones include spacesuit development and test support for the very first Space Shuttle flight, astronaut training and flight support for the first Space Shuttle “spacewalk”, and astronaut training and procedure development for many NASA “firsts”. I provided systems engineering support to the first flights of the Manned Maneuverability Unit (MMU), repair and deploy of the Solar Maximum Mission satellite, satellite salvaging missions, and multiple space lab flights designed to explore and understand the effects of long duration stays in space on the human body. Through the NASA Specialized Center of Research and Training for Space Environmental Health, I was the only contractor support at NASA Headquarters in the 1990’s assigned to the Advanced EVA Program where I provided support to assess the state of development of EVA related technologies and operations against future mission plans.

A career highlight for me was being involved in the historical final HST servicing mission in May 2009 in part by developing procedures and training NASA’s astronauts to repair the Advanced Camera for Surveys, an extremely delicate and critical task described by my friend astronaut John M. Grunsfeld (Ph.D.) as “performing brain surgery in space”.

We enjoy rides in the country on my Harley, traveling and cruises, and especially look forward to annual treks to Key West for the Songwriter Festival each May.

One of my personal joys has been that a significant number of the HCHS Class of 1975 has managed to stay in touch through the years - celebrating joys together and supporting each other during Life's challenging moments.

I am looking forward to the Holy Cross Alumni Reunion of 2011!
